As you embark on a new school year, remember and implement the qualities of a good student.
Good students are active learners. Be prepared for class by not only bringing the required materials but bring questions. Actively participate in the learning process. Be engaged with your teachers and your peers so that you receive the best learning experience possible.
Good students are organized. They make to-do lists and schedule times to get things done including getting the right amount of rest. Time management is critical especially for students who are involved in extra-curricular activities or who have a part-time job.
Good students have healthy relationships. Build a positive relationship with your teachers, your peers and yourself. Own your actions. Be positive, caring and kind to those around you and you will receive those same things in return. Take care of your body. Get enough rest, eat balanced meals and develop a healthy study routine.
Good students set goals and reach them. They know exactly what they want to achieve and they take the necessary steps to accomplish their goals. If you know you want to go to college, take the challenging courses that are going to give you the preparation you need. If you want to be a chef, take culinary arts classes. If you want to be on the Honor Roll, study hard and do well. You can achieve the goals you set for yourself.
Good students do well because they want to. You must be motivated to achieve your goals and you will find that motivation inside of you. As Malcolm X said, "Education is the passport to the future for the future belongs to those who prepare for it today."
Do well this year and always. Strive to be the best you can be.
